01 August 2019 Current Affairs: Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri, Senior BJP MLA, has been selected to become the next speaker of Karnataka assembly. He was the only candidate to file his nomination papers for the post on 30 July. The place fell vacant after K R Ramesh Kumar quit on 29 July.

Vishweshwar Hegde Kager:

Kageri is a six term MLA from Sirsi. He has also served as the Minister for Primary and Secondary Education in the BJP Government of Karnataka. He was elected to the Karnataka assembly from Ankola assembly seat in 1994.

The Union Cabinet approved the setting up of ISRO Technical Liaison Unit (ITLU) in Moscow. The move comes as the India Space Research Organisation's (ISRO) cooperation with Russia on the Gaganyaan project, India's human space mission programme. The process has been planned to be completed within six months from the date of approval.

Cost estimated:

The cost estimated for the project is about Rs.1.5 crore per annum. It is expected to be incurred at ISRO Technical Liaison Unit (ITLU) towards salary, office expenses, rent and taxes etc.

01 August 2019 Current Affairs: The postal department decided to convert the India Post Payments Bank into a small finance bank It is enabling it to offer small loans to customers..The department looks to open one crore accounts for IPPB in 100 days.
The decisions were taken at the annual Heads of Circles Conference. The conference held at Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir from July 29-31, 2019.The main aim is to adopt a 100-day action plan and a five-year vision to align the Department of Posts with the Prime Minister's New India initiative. The decision included "Converting the India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) into a Small Finance Bank (SFB)

01 August 2019 Current Affairs: Cafe Coffee Day Enterprises Ltd appointed SV Ranganath as interim chairman after the sudden death of its founder VG Siddhartha. Coffee Day also named Nitin Bagmane as interim chief operating officer (COO) approval by the board.

Death of VG Siddhartha:

Siddhartha, owner of Cafe Coffee Day was found on the banks of the Nethravathi river near Mangalore. His body was found after a massive 36-hour search operation. The reason for his death was stated as tremendous pressure from lenders and some private equity players. 
The I-T department attached his shares in Coffee Day Enterprises, which resulted in a serious liquidity crunch for the firm.

5. Current Affairs - Kaleshwaram project secures Hyderabads water supply for        the future

01 August 2019 Current Affairs: Hyderabad is facing any such issues in the foreseeable future even if there is low rainfall, all thanks to the Telangana government’s massive ₹80,190 crore Kaleshwaram lift irrigation project launched in June.

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) supplies 462 million gallons per day (MGD) to the capital city from the Krishna (phase 1, 2 and 3) and Godavari (phase-1) projects, and the Osmansagar, and Himayat Sagar reservoirs. The two reservoirs put supply just 40 MGD of water. They were built close to a century ago to supply water to the city.
The Kaleshwaram project, the state government set aside 30 thousand million cubic feet (TMC) of water, out of the total 225 TMC will be drawn in total through it(mainly for irrigation purposes) for Hyderabad alone (10 TMC roughly equals 170 MGD). The city’s water supply has in fact gone up from the earlier 356 MGD that was being supplied. The Godavari and Krishna sources are very reliable. There are about 225 TMC of water will be drawn through the Kaleshwaram project from the Godavari river basin once it is fully operational. The project involves building reservoirs at various places, is expected to irrigate 18.24 lakh acres of land in the state with 165 TMC of water

Public Premises (Eviction of Unauthorised Occupants) Amendment Bill 2019 Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs proposed amendments would enable the estate officer to apply summary proceedings for eviction unauthorized occupants from residential accommodations and to levy damage charges for accommodation held during the period of litigation. 01 August 2019 Current Affairs: Union government enrol around 150 million workers over the next three years under the scheme Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maan-dhan (PM-SYM). The pension scheme will benefit a large pool of people who earn less but form a large part of the labour market. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government is targeting the bottom of the pyramid through various policy interventions, realising that they are a significant political constituency.

The total enrolment, 50-60 million workers will be from the construction sector.The government announced the scheme in February 2019 interim budget, promising to provide pension of ₹3,000 per month. There is a monthly contribution till the age of 60 years to get an assured pension of ₹3,000 every month.The 18-year-old starts out by paying ₹55 per month, which moves up to ₹80 at the age of 25, and ₹105, ₹150 and ₹200 for those aged 30, 35 and 40, respectively. When a regular contributor dies before the age of 60, the spouse will be entitled to join and continue the scheme by regular contribution or exit the scheme. Around 8% of the labour market are formal sector employees and social security benefits, including provident funds, pensions available.

The main objective of this deal is to boost the capabilities of Indian Air Force (IAF) R-27 air-to-air missiles will be equipped on the Su-30MKI fighter jets.

R-27 Missile
It is a medium-range air-to-air missile. It is initially developed for MiG and Sukhoi fighter jets. They developed these missiles to add the capability to the Sukhoi and MiG warfare aircraft. Indian Air Force signed Rs 7600 crore deals in the past two months.The actual design of R-27 missile was started in 1962 while its production was started in 1986. More than 25 countries are taking services of this missile.R-27 missile can destroy air targets even in adverse weather conditions. The length of the missile is 4 meter and the diameter is 0.23 meter. The weight of the missile is 253 kilograms.There are six extended versions - R-27ER1, R-27R1, R-27ET1, R-27T1, R-27EP1, and R-27P1.

01 August 2019 Current Affairs: Indian Air Force (IAF) Wing Commander Tarun Chaudhri became the first pilot to perform a wingsuit skydive jump. He jumped 8500 feet from the Mi-17 V5helicopter at Air Force Station in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. This is the first time when a pilot of the IAF jumped the wingsuit skydive with the same helicopter, which he has just flown. It is a military transport variant, equipped with modern avionics and glass cockpit instrumentation. The rotary-wing aircraft has state-of-the-art navigational equipment, avionics, weather radar.
